8 - Starter Motor

The Lucas M35 start motor is a popular make and can be found in many British cars of the period. However, some research showed that it is important to count the gear teeth. Once again I had a few units to choose from and selected the best looking example and opened it up. Luckily it appeared to be a refurbished example. After decades on the garage floor the return spring mechanism was jammed. Carefully counting the teeth I was easily able to source a replacement kit. With the brushes cleaned up and a lick of paint, the unit was finished a lot more easily than the dynamo. 09/08/2013
