The throttle pedal has already been dealt with and the brake pedal and clutch pedal mechanism required renovation. The brake pedal and the clutch pedal were both removed and found to be rusty. The rubbers were worn through as well.
The pedals were left to soak in Bilthamber Deox-C & the results were impressive.
The clutch pedal mechanism was jammed up with old grease and dirt. It took a lot of soaking with penetrating fluid to free it all up. The bar was noted to be considerably worn. As luck would have it the parts pile produced an assembly in better condition. I decided to restore that.
The bar is actually hollow and grease is fed via a nipple through the bar to a small hole to lube the bush. (god knows how many internet hits that sentence is going to generate!) It took a lot of work to remove the gum like old grease & then it was time to give the parts a coating of aluminium as per their original finish.
The clutch operating rod was caked in dirt and the adjusting nut seemed stuck. The remaining thread was eroded, but I thought it worth restoring. Sadly the whole threaded section broke away. Once again, the parts pile produced another example for restoration.
So into the deox C it went ! A good coating of black paint will be needed to protect this.
