The wheels were to be left until late as I didn't want the expensive new cross plys getting paint & cutting paste on them. But with that work now largely done, they were detracting from the look !
Whilst up in the air for the seat fitting, it was time to remove the wheels and get them shot blasted and powder coated. Removing the drivers side wheel was difficult as there just didn't seem to be space to get the tyre over the drum and into position. I had to deflate the tyre in order to be able to squeeze it.
The rims were very corroded, but the shot blasting did a good job. The rims were then powder coated in an off white.
The new cross plys were gathered up and along with the rims were taken off to be fitted and balanced.
And back they come looking spectacular. The garage has fitted the balancing weights to the inside so they can't be seen. Nice touch.
And the first wheel gets fitted ! The wheel cover should feature a centre that is fastened down using a wheel nut. Since that part of the cover is missing I have got my Brother to fabricate a stainless clamp.
The wheels are put back on with the same issue as getting them off! The new wheel nuts didn't fit, but as I have hub caps it doesn't matter. I have some polished 21e rim trims, but they were a little over powering along with the hub cap. Instead I have opted to just use the hub cap and leave the off white rims exposed. The effect it has on the shade of red is fantastic. She hasn't looked this good since 1964.
